The FLEGT
Then JEM 3 and next step

The Joint Expert Meeting or JEM 3 had been completed on 21-22 March 2018 in Thailand. In the meeting, Thailand had updated on our good progression of FLEGT process and highlighted the significant of stakeholder’s participatory process.        The result of the meeting is an important guideline to develop a workplan driving Thailand’s FLEGT process. This workplan aims to report the progress in the next JEM 4. The key issues are including:

–    Legality Definition (LD) which is focusing on the progress report of LD revision;
–    Supply Chain Controls (SCC), included the importing control and supply chain control on private land;
–    Product Scope (PS), with an update on additional lists into the product scope;
–    Timber Legality Assurance System (TLAS) which is focusing on the progress report of paper revision and the system’s linkage of each function.

Moreover, the EU committed to provide a financial support for a technical consultant to assist Thai side in term of document preparation as well as a financial support for the stakeholders’ participatory in providing a suitable guideline and methodology to enhance timber trade to the government sector.

FLEG’Tune
An EU Consultant Visited TEFSOOn March 5th, 2018, Mr. Agus Setyarso, an EU consultant, paid a visit to TEFSO and had some conversation and discussion over Thailand’s National Single Window (NSW). The visit aimed to find a gap which might be occurred in the system and to fix it with the support from EU. In this regard, Thai relevant authorities had presented the details of Thai NSW working process in a whole before updating the present progression as well as roles of each department relevant to NSW. Besides Thai NSW, Mr. Setyarso also received an update on FLEGT progression of Thailand.

Indonesia shipped verified legal timber worth more than 1 billion euros to EU in first year of FLEGT licensing
Indonesia has shipped verified legal timber and timber products worth more than 1 billion euros to the EU since it began issuing such products with FLEGT licenses one year ago.
