TEFSO Newsletter Issue No. 29 (Oct – Dec 2022)

Marking the ninth year of the Thailand – EU FLEGT VPA process, in this issue, we’re pleased to share with you many achievements that have been obtained in several key areas:

  • A completed operational plan for Thai – EU Timber Legality Assurance System (THA-TLAS); the THA-TLAS plan resulted from a years-long collaboration between stakeholders from the government, private sector, and civil societies.
  • A robust multi-stakeholder process with 65 members and more than 260 meetings held and counting.
  • Enhanced capacity of legal enforcement through digital tools such as mobile and web applications for timber certification.

Before we enter 2023, we’d like to present below an overview of our work over the past year. Key highlights are the ongoing Ad-Hoc Working Group meetings to prepare for the implementation of THA-TLAS in the areas such as institutional and regulatory reform, due diligence-led import control and the development of an electronic system for timber certification. You will also find our informative videos and infographics you can share with your network.

As support to TEFSO has come to an end this year, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our colleagues and partners for this incredible journey toward sustainable timber trade. We wish you a very happy new year and hope to see you all again.

Best wishes,

TEFSO
