Minister of Natural Resource and Environmental, Gen. Surasak Kanjanarat was a chairman on opening ceremony of The Kick-off event of “Stakeholder Participatory Workshop on Timber Legality Definition in Thailand”; The Participatory Solution to Solve Illegal Logging toward International Trade Mechanism

Minister of Natural Resource and Environmental opened the meeting on increase understanding among government, private and civil society sectors to push forward forest business to act according to the law.

On 21st September 2015 at Miracle Grand Convention Bangkok-Minister of Natural Resource and Environmental, Gen. Surasak Kanjanarat was a chairman on opening ceremony of The Kick-off event of “Stakeholder Participatory Workshop on Timber Legality Definition in Thailand”; The Participatory Solution to Solve Illegal Logging toward International Trade Mechanism and leading seminar to the topic of FLEGT VPA process.

The workshop aimed to build participatory of stakeholder on forestry related in Thailand; the main target was government, private and civil society sectors and increases understanding, which will arrange in regional i.e. Khonkan, Ratchaburi, Surat Thani and Chiang Mai. The result from the meeting will analyse and present in the final workshop at Bangkok.

The representatives from 3 stakeholders (Government, Private and Civil Society sectors) will submit the recommendation to Minister today. There was 8 main topic in recommendation which including to planting, possession of people sector and distribution in private sector.

The recommendation was from the meeting of Ad-Hoc working group on Legality Definition 6 times from May 2014 to present. The importance of stakeholder participation will be change the working way of Thai forestry. In the past, we always heard about problem on unclear planting, cutting and possessing including to export timber to abroad on legality and traceability of timber sourcing. If Thailand can develop controlling, verifying and solving unclear problem will increase trust of timber and their product in international level, which reflect to Thailand effort on controlling illegal timber trade.
