The first meeting of the year AHWG1/2020

The AHWG was a meeting to consider the draft document of Supply Chain Control on Private Land yesterday (4 Feb’20). The paper needs more revision which should focus on self-declaration process.

Mrs. Kantinan Peawsa-ad, Director of Forest Economics Bureau, Royal Forest Department (RFD) reported on Due Diligence System (DDS) at the United Kindom (UK) and Federal Republic of Germany during 13-18 January 2020. After the study visit, representatives from concerned agencies participating in the trip concluded that the AHWG should review DDS and study on Pre-import DDS concurrently.

The working group received assistance from the Department of Fisheries (DoF) on providing a speaker, Ms. Chuanpit Chantarawaratit, Senior Expert in International Fisheries Affairs, Department of Fisheries to present an experience of IUU Fishing which is valuable for the working group to learn. There are various issues such as licensing, traceability, sharing and integration of related agencies, including to the import process which is similar to the Thai Timber Legality Assurance System (THA-TLAS) development. Along with the updated legality, significant support of all measures that will support of Thai’ competition in international further.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Jirasak Chukwamdee, Deputy Director General, Royal Forest Department (RFD). In addition, there was a variety of relevant sectors consisting of working groups and participants for a total of 46 persons which was divided into 25 males and 21 females.
