The fourth sub-committee meeting was held on September 8, 2020, via Zoom application. Mr. Somsak Sapakosonkun, Deputy Director of the Royal Forest Department, representative of Mr. Attapol Charoenchansa, Director of the Royal Forest Department, presided over the meeting.

The meeting aims to prepare discussion topics for the Fifth Joint Expert Meeting (JEM 5). Discussion points put forward at the JEM meeting came from the NFC, the sub-committee, and the ad-hoc working group channeling the FLEGT-VPA commitment to stakeholders’ participatory process. Product Coverage remains the topic of interest amongst stakeholders as the content of this annex could bring about the increase in Thai’s competitiveness in the global market.

The sub-committee is looking forward to a fruitful exchange with the EU. JEM 5 will be a step towards concluding the agreement that represents both Thailand and EU goals to assure Thai timber legality, promote legal timber trade and sustainable forest management, and maximize forest resources’ benefits.
