On 22 May 2018, Thai Timber Association, the leader of Import Control Sub-Working Group, had arranged a meeting regarding Thailand’s Import Control at Thai Timber Association Office. The meeting aimed to prepare for the negotiation with the European Union (EU) over Thai Import Control.
In the meeting, the implementation procedures of Due Diligence System (DDS) had been discussed and mainly focused on its effects over the operators both Minor and Major if the DDS is applied. The meeting also had a discussion over the scope of products about to what extent they would have to be controlled. Moreover, the working group provided some opinions regarding the organization or agency which should be accountable for overseeing the DDS. During the meeting, the relevant documents had been revised on some messages in order to be most appropriate with the context of Thailand. However, a field test will be developed to consider the DDS’s effects which might be occurred to the operators later on.
