AHWG 8 Meeting in July 2020 via Zoom Meeting Program (23 – 24 July 2020)

On 23-24 July 2020, the ad-hoc working group convened the 8th meeting of this year to watch video presentations about methods and tools used by organizations and companies around the world to verify timber legalities and exclude illegal timber. The presentations are part of the Asia-Pacific Enforcement Exchange, a meeting co-organized by Forest Trends and IGES. The video presentations shown at the AHWG meeting were coordinated by Somporn Khongthanakrittakorn, Consultant, Forest Trends.

The presentations were divided into three parts:

  1. Supply chain documents fraud and verification toolspresents a timber traceability analysis, programs by an intergovernmental organization to stop illegal timber and promote legal timber trade, and software to collect supply chain document and detect fraud and non-compliance.
  2. Science-led enforcement capacity and timber testingmethods present projects undertaken by a non-profit organization and research institutions to develop scientific tools to verify timber origins and species.
  3. Due diligence in sourcing Africa focus – Mozambique & Nigeriapresents overviews of the timber sector, and timber management policies in African timber-producing countries and ways to conduct due diligence when importing products made from African timber.
