Consultation of Unregulated Species Verification on Private Land

On 3rd November, MS Rungnapa Wattanavichian from Thailand Forest Certification Council(TFCC) consulted Director Banjong Wongsrisoontorn together with officers of Thai-EU FLEGT Secretariat Office(TEFSO) about unregulated species verification on private land.

The consultation had two main points  as follow:

  1. Unregulated Species Verification on Private Land
  2. Mr.Alexander Hinrichs, EU FLEGT facility- Regional Advisor Asia from EFI, suggested offering farmers three options for verifying unregulated species which were
    • CoC certification
    • Self-declaration
    • E-Tree Registration

The consultation concluded that self-declaration must have a verification system. Exported wood chips to Indonesia can be a case study of this system.

  3. MS Rungnapa Wattanavichian will prepare CoC certification and Self-declaration information while Mr.Banjong Wongsrisoontorn will prepare E-Tree information to present at AHWG meeting on 28 November 2017.

2. DDS Development Plan
A Workshop will be used to develop DDS, a part of TLAS in Thailand. To illustrate, observation at countries that Thai mostly import their timbers or regulated species such as Malaysia or Myanmar might be held to develop this system.
