Thai – EU FLEGT Secretariat Office (TEFSO) arranges the FLEGT VPA Ad-Hoc Working Group towards the preparation and make understanding on LD field testing on 19 July 2017 during 13.00-17.00 at Ruay Panya 2 at Maruay Garden Hotel, Bangkok. Mr.Chonlatid Surasawadee, Director of the Royal Forest Department, is the chairman of the meeting.
Ms.Pawinee Udommai, the local consultant presents the LD field testing methodology.The broad objectives of the field testing are:
- to identify gaps, weakness or inconsistencies in the legality definition or circumstances where the LD is insufficient or inadequate to cover the situations found in the field
- to identify the practicality of the LD as the basis of a system of legal verification
- to establish the applicability and relevance of the requirements and the verifiers
- to identify the impracticalities or inadequacies with the specific requirements, indicators or verifiers
- to identify the key organisations and institutions (including government departments) that are involved in the process and how they contribute to the verification process
- to provide information and guidance in the development of the Legality Assurance Scheme and in particular the subsequent processes of supply chain control, verification and licensing
The LD field test will arrange during July to September 2017, the meeting also consult about the properly areas and the auditor team will be divide into 3 groups as well.
The last session, the FAO officer presents “Supporting priority actions to participate in the implementation of the VPA process” which aims to support the VPA process to combat illegal logging and and the associated trade in illegally harvested timber and the sustainable forest management.
